ZyXEL ZyWALL 5 is an internet security firewall appliance which integrates 8 functions into a single box. It’s a high performance 8-in one UTM appliance that includes Anti-Virus, IDP, Anti-Spam, Firewall, VPN, Load Balancing, Bandwidth Management and Content Filtering.

Firewall, IDS and Anti-spam

The device includes a SPI firewall which helps you scan deep into the traffic that comes from the wild internet. All the traffic must be controlled, authenticated, filtered and logged. It also integrates the antivirus and Intrusion detection system (IDS) which is accelerated by Zywall turbo card and is powered by the Kapersky for the virus signature and works automatically for the updates. This helps you protect any types of internet threats and viruses including Trojan horse, backdoor, buffer overflow and other malware.

Not just that, the ZyXEL ZyWALL 5 supports the spam and phishing prevention with the help of external database with the black list URLs.

VPN

Unlike home routers which support the VPN pass through, ZyXEL ZyWALL 5 support native Virtual Private Network. you can use wide range of secure tunneling including

  • Manual key, IKE
  • PKI (X.509)
  • Encryption (DES, 3DES and AES)
  • Authentication (SHA-1 and MD5)
  • IPSec NAT Traversal
  • Xauth User Authentication (Internal Database and External RADIUS)
  • DH1/2, RSA signature

You can also control contents filtering based on URL keywords, Java/ActiveX /Cookie/News blocking, and also can also filter based on external database. With traffic management, the device provides guaranteed/maximum bandwidth, policy-based traffic shaping, priority-bandwidth utilization, bandwidth management, and static routes.

Load Balancing

The good thing with this Zywall 5 is that you can change the mode to function as the router. With the router mode you can add a 3G modem to allow you access second WAN connection with load balancing.

DMZ

Each LAN port can be changed from the LAN role to the DMZ port role. With DMZ, you can create a security boundary to let you expose a host for publicly access. For example you can host a WEB server or an FTP server for public access.

Turbo Card Option

Each series of ZyXEL’s ZyWALL 5 / 35 / 70 can be upgraded to perform up to 20 times the performance by adding a ZyWALL Turbo Card. This new technology introduces a new all-in-one network security device that provides content filtering, anti-virus, anti-spam and intrusion detection services traditionally handled by multiple systems
