USB 3.0 PCI Card for Super Speed Data Transfer Rate

New generation of USB 3.0 PCI Card delivers the high speeds as fast up to 10 times as traditional USB 2.0 with data rate transfer up to 5Gbps

I had an experience with transferring huge data files from a data server to a USB 2.0 external hard disk that took me tens of hours to complete the task before finally the task was cancelled because the IT manager who would take the disk with him to the headquarter office run out of time to catch the flight. It was in remote site while the data must be transferred to the headquarter office thousands of miles away from the remote site. Communication link between the two sites use only 512Kbps satellite link which is impossible to transfer the huge hundreds of gigabit data via the satellite link. See also WAN technologies.

In a multi-servers environment where autoloader tape backup is used to support the backup strategy, the full backup jobs are easier and very fast. But if the backup cartridges are not compatible with other tape backup drives, the easiest way to transfer the data is by copying the data to the external disk drive by means of USB drive. Unfortunately, the maximum data rate transfer for USB 2.0 is limited to 480Mbps, not fast enough for heavy task huge data transfer. For home usage or small amount of data transfer, this is enough. In some cases where you need to transfer huge data, the use of USB 2.0 external disk for data transfer is not adequate to the task. Another faster solution should be found for the task.

Super Speed USB 3.0

Super Speed USB 3.0 is a new technology developed by Intel that can be used to transfer huge data with the data rate transfer up to 5Gbps. Any PCI adapters with USB 3.0 can transfer super speed data at this fantastic speed up to 5Gbps as opposed to the USB 2.0 which can transfer data up to 480Mbps only. This high speed is ideal for transferring huge business data to an external USB 3.0 disk storage such as Iomega eGo 2 TB 10 times faster than traditional USB 2.0 devices.

Buffalo USB 3.0 PCI E adapterThere are many types of USB 3.0 PCI express card adapters available in the market today, but not all types of computers can be installed with this adapter. Only those computers that support PCI express card slot can be installed USB 3.0 PCI adapter.

Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCI Express or PCI-E) is PCI which uses a much faster physical-layer communications protocol than traditional PCI bus architecture. PCI Express uses dedicated, unidirectional, point-to-point connections lanes to communicate with PCI Express devices.

The following lists two types of USB 3.0 PCI express card adapters you can use for your computers with PCI-e enabled.

Buffalo IFC-PCIE2U3 PCI Express Card Adapter

You can consider this Buffalo PCI USB 3.0 adapter to upgrade your desktop PCs to support Super-speed USB 3.0 devices such as USB 3.0 storage devices. The adapter includes two USB 3.0 ports for fast data transfer rate. The adapter is backward compatible with any types of USB 2.0 devices.

For best performance, you can use Buffalo Drive-Station USB 3.0 HD-HXU3 hard drives. The capacity of the drive is 1T and is backward compatible with USB 2.0 port. The drive can connect to any Mac and PCs computers with seamless integration.

Western Digital SuperSpeed USB 3.0 PCI Express (PCIe) Card

Western Digital PCI E USB 3.0 adapterWestern Digital is a well-known brand in adapters and hard drives. You can also consider this WD Super-Speed USB 3.0 PCI Express card to allow you connect any USB 3.0 external drives for example Western Digital My Book Essential 2 TB USB 3.0/2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive.

The Western Digital My Book Essential 2 TB supports both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 adapters for automatic and continuous backup with hardware encryption and also password protection.

What about the laptop? Is there any USB 3.0 adapter you can use? Yes, any laptop with PCI Express slot can use Express-card type USB 3.0 adapter for example Buffalo Technology DriveStation SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ExpressCard 2-Port Adapter Card IFC-EC2U3/UC. The adapter supports two USB 3.0 ports you can connect to any USB 3.0 devices including the storage and is off course backward compatible with the USB 2.0 devices.

USB 3.0 PCI card is ideal solution for demanding super speed data rate transfer for huge data businesses and is easy to install to any desktop computers with PCI Express slot ready. For maximum data rate transfer, you should use the same USB 3.0 technology both the USB adapter and the storage or other USB 3.0 devices.
