New Ultimate Speed WNDR4500 N900 Vs Tew-692GR N900 Routers

Netgear introduces ultimate speed WNDR4500 wireless N900 router. What makes it different than new Trendnet TEW-692GR N900 router?

  • Overview
  • Wireless technology
  • Ethernet Interfaces
  • USB Ports

Netgear one of the leading networking manufacturers introduces new ultimate speed WNDR4500 N900 wireless dual band router. Designed with the ultimate speed N900 technology, the router delivers the speed up to 900Mbps both bands (450Mbps each band). This is theoretical physical speed, normally will not reach those speeds in the real world. Is this the first router with 450Mbps speed each band? Actually Trendnet introduced TEW-692GR – the ultimate speed router couple of months earlier than WNDR4500 N900. What are the main differences between the two routers?

To understand the main differences between the two routers, the table below shows you the main spec differences.

Wireless Technology

Currently the two wireless routers are designed with the ultimate speed of N900 technology which theoretical speeds are 450Mbps each 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, doubling your high bandwidth demand up to 900Mbps ideal for streaming HD video with no delay, lag-free and experiences online gaming fast and smooth. You can do the streaming, gaming, large data transfer, and running other high bandwidth applications simultaneously.

The new WNDR4500 N900 is designed with internal antennas with high powered radio amplifiers, looks nice on your table or wherever you place the router is. On the other hand, the TEW-692GR is designed with internal and external MIMO antennas technology. In 2.4GHz band, the router is designed with 3x internal antennas with 2dBi gain, while for 5GHz band the router is designed with 3x external antennas with 3dBi gain. Trendnet offers you some wireless devices with 450Mbps wireless technology including USB, wireless bridge and gaming adapter ideal peers connecting to your N900 routers for maximum data throughput.

Unlike Netgear or Trendnet, D-link offers you with different antenna design – the smartbeam antenna technology for example D-link Dir-645 N300 whole home router. It’s performs well with Gigabit interfaces, one USB 2.0 port for sharing storage or printer and off-course IPv6 supports. But this is a single band version, for the dual band version D-link introduces Dir-827 HD media router 2000 and Dir-857 HD media router 3000 with N900 technology. The major different with these two routers is that high speed USB 3.0 port which is ten times faster than USB 2.0 port.

Ethernet Ports

You will expect that the routers with ultimate speeds must be embedded with Gigabit Ethernet ports in their both LAN and WAN interfaces to support your All-in-one computer or maybe your Apple Mac mini server. Yes, they are all designed with gigabit speed for wired connection. Make sure your Ethernet-based devices are ready with gigabit NIC to reach the maximum speed you demand, unless you waste it. Gigabit Ethernet is very essential if you require hooking up gigabit computers for reliable wired connection.

USB Ports

Both Trendnet TEW-691 N450 and TEW-692GR N900 routers are not designed with embedded USB port, this is too sad because USB port either for shared storage or shared printer is high value for users. With the high speed up to 450Mbps the router should be ideal for HD streaming and jitter-free gaming and with the addition of USB port for storing any types of multimedia files would be big benefit.

Netgear WNDR4500 N900 with two USB ports is a big value to share your huge multimedia files and the other USB port to let you host a shared printer eliminating the need of purchasing wireless print-server. WNDR4500 supports built-in media server with DLNA certified for seamless connection with other DLNA-compliant devices.
