Edimax EnduraLINK ER-1088 routers are multi wan routers with 8 multi homing wan ports. The router supports VPN server for up to 50 secure tunneling. Multi wan router or multiple wan routers are ideal for demanding high bandwidth solution.
In line with the growing of your businesses, the demand of the WAN bandwidth increases too. With the increasing of the E-mail usage, Voice (VoIP), internet browsing, video conference, and other high-bandwidth applications while your WAN bandwidth remain the same, this will creates bottleneck traffic. Traditionally when you require high-bandwidth solution – typically the expensive T1 service is the solution. But today, you have the alternate solution: subscribing multiple xDSL or Cable Internet services by deploying any types of multi wan routers. For multiple WAN routers, consider Edimax EnduraLinker ER-1088.
What this Product Does
Edimax EnduraLinker ER-1088 multi wan routers are designed for load balance Internet connection both for inbound and outbound. The router supports up to 8 WAN ports you can connect to different modems of different DSL or Cable internet providers. ER-1088 supports VPN load balancing for up to 4 WAN tunnels to support up to 50 secure tunneling.
ER-1088 multi wan routers support multiple DMZ network to allow you create security boundary in hosting public resources such as FTP server, WEB server, or Video conference which the traffic are typically blocked by NAT firewall. The internet users can access the public resources without compromising your business / internal network.
VPN Technology
ER-1088 multi wan routers include the Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology natively to allow you create secure gateway to gateway tunneling connecting branch offices together through unsecured public networks (aka the internet). The router supports up to 50 secure tunneling using IPSec.
IPSec is a Layer-3 TCP/IP protocol which defines an end-to-end model for data encryption and integrity implemented at the Internet Protocol (IP) level which means only that the hosts at the two endpoints of an IPSec session need to be IPSec-enabled.
For secure connection, these multi wan routers support security encryption including DES (Data Encryption Standard), 3DES, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)-128, AES-192, AES-256. AES is stronger encryption which is the replacement standard for DES. ER-1088 multi wan routers support VPN load balancing for up to 4 WAN tunnels.
Networking Solution
Edimax EnduraLinker ER-1088 multi wan router can be setup as shown in the following networking diagram – a common solution for small offices that supports up to 253 user clients. To provide load balance high-bandwidth internet connection, up to 8 WAN ports can be connected to multiple Cable or ADSL modems from different ISP’s for the uptime of the internet. A web server is connected to a DMZ port for public resources – users in the internet can access the internet without compromising the internal / private network.

Edimax EnduraLinker ER-1088 multi wan routers are ideal solution for small businesses which demand high-bandwidth instead of deploying expensive T1 solution. For small offices, you may consider Cisco RV 120W wireless VPN router which includes dual WAN ports for load balancing or smart backup link. You may also consider the Cradllpoint MBR1400 wireless mobile router which supports all the modem options including cellular, cable and DSL modems.
Alternate Solutions
You can also consider another types of multi WAN routers by Syswan Technologies: the Octolinks SW88 8PORT 2PORT Multi Wan Load Balancing Router. You can connect up to eight different WAN connection lines for load balancing.
Main features:
- Includes up to 16 Ethernet 10/100 ports for LAN and eight of them can be configured as the WAN ports (2 default WAN ports) with intelligent load balancing.
- It features Quality of Service to allow you manage the inbound / outbound traffic bandwidth based on the source and destination IP, ports and services types for each of the WA port.
- Supports up to 32 static IP addresses you can configure for DMZ
