Generally when you start your small office for your small business, you start with a simple LAN network including the gateway router and the Switch with two or more computers with wired connection to the switch. When your small business grows, you provide wireless access to the mobile devices including laptops, iPads, smart-phones etc which operate either in 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands. You need to install a dual band wireless access point connected to the switch.

Why dual band? With dual band access point, your wireless network environment can operate in both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Make sure that the AP is the dual band simultaneous to allow both types of 2.4 and 5GHz based devices connect to the network. The other thing you need to consider in selecting the wireless AP for your business is the PoE (Power over Ethernet) feature. With PoE wireless access point, you can deploy the devices in area where power outlet is not available yet.

When your small business grows, the number of the employee grows too and larger office area is also required. You need to expand the network to cover larger area including the wireless network coverage. A single wireless access point is not enough to cover the dead spots or the farthest corner of the building. With multiple wireless AP devices, you should choose the AP devices which are easy to grow with minimum configuration and installation. D-Link DWL-8600AP is a dual band PoE wireless access point for your growing businesses which is easy to grow and manage centrally.

What this product does

DWL-8600AP dual band access point is business class PoE AP which is powered by the 802.11n technology to support both types of wireless devices which operate either in 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequency bands including the laptops with dual-band Wi-Fi, iPad, and other Wi-Fi based devices.

DWL-8600AP dual band access point is a business class Unified Wireless Access Point which is designed for indoor. You can deploy the device either standalone or as managed access point which can be managed centrally from a wireless switch.

Start with standalone mode to support your small business. When your business grows and the requirements to grow your wireless network exist, you can migrate to a centrally managed system by integrating the same DWL-8600AP with a D-Link unified wired/wireless switch such as DWS-4026.

Installation is easy; with PoE you can deploy the AP devices in area where power outlets are not available yet such as in ceilings.DWL-8600AP is fully compliant with 802.3af Power over Ethernet even when operating at maximum power. You can connect the AP to the PoE Ethernet port such as DWS-4026 which is designed to work with DWL-8600AP as manageable APs.

The following figure shows the diagram of the small office using DWL-8600AP wireless access point and the management switch controller DWS-4026.

The good thing when you combine DWL-8600 and DWS-4026 is that the Switch automatically configures every connected DWL-8600AP, easy and no configuration needed. And if for some reason you have to replace the DWL-8600AP – the replacement DWL-8600AP will inherit the same configuration. This will save your time, simpler replacement process.

The DWL-8600AP can detect the rogue AP and send the report to the DWS-4026 Switch controller, and from the management console you can take appropriate action. For wireless security the AP supports WEP and WPA/WPA2 and for creating security boundaries you can segregate the network by creating multiple SSID (per bands). For hiding your SSID (network names) you can disable the SSID broadcast.
