Dlink Router has shipped 3 different wireless router products with almost the same features. They are DIR-655; DIR-660 Limited edition, and DIR-855. All of them have major similarities in features as shown in the comparison table below. As far as I noticed there are only two main differences, the DIR-855 is powered with dual-band wireless-N and OLED display monitoring system is not shipped on DIR-655.
Dlink Router introduces many advanced award winning features such as Xtreme-N technology based on the future wireless technology draft 802.11n. DIR-855 is powered by Xtreme-N dual-band both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands. With 5 GHz frequency band, you can stream multiple HD videos across the network in a clear wireless band avoiding interference with other wireless devices that use common 2.4 GHz band that may slow down and limit the range of standard wireless technology like 802.11g.
Dlink Router also embedded the three wireless routers with the Intelligent wireless QoS Prioritization Technology which allows movie or music you are streaming gets priority over traditional file downloads—with no compromise to speed. Shareport technology allows you share USB devices such as printer and USB storage. I have no idea whether DIR-660 Dlink router support Shareport technology or not, D-Link doesn’t mention it except USB port is used for WCN (Windows Connect Now) technology.
What does Dlink router with WCN support do? Part of Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), Windows Connect Now technology makes it easier for you to add devices such as printers and routers to your existing wireless network, or create a new one from scratch. A common Dlink router diagram can be shown below.

The new Wireless Network Setup Wizard in Windows XP SP2 provides two methods for creating a wireless network: automated with a USB flash drive or manual. Using a USB flash drive is easier and more secure, but you must use Windows Connect Now compatible devices to take advantage of it, Dlink router supports this technology.
Dlink router incorporates the industry’s first OLED display on the router that monitors your network activity. Created around the idea of “You can never have too much information,” the Network Activity Display provides time-saving benefits for network specialists and the casual network administrator alike. With a luminous and vivid display, pertinent information will be relayed to you on-demand. Whether you want to monitor your network’s health or are unsure of network settings, you can quickly check all of your router security types, network connectivity, wireless network names, and other settings. But DIR-655 Dlink router is not powered with this feature.
Dlink router with dual-firewall feature (NAT and SPI) protects your private network from the network and internet threats. But for your total network security, that’s not enough protecting your computers from the threats, you can deploy total security solutions software such as BitDefender for family which will work proactively. The security solution for the corporate version is also available.
The following table will describe a brief summary for the three routers you can compare between DIR-660 Limited edition; DIR-655, and DIR-855 Xtreme-N Duo Dlink router.
