The popularity of D-link Dir655 is very good with 3.8 out of 5 stars customer ratings in Amazon. Unfortunately it doesn’t support dual band. Can it be your router platform for delivering high performance iPad and Touchpad? Should you upgrade the router to new generation of D-Link routers such as Dir825 or Dir665? People are satisfied with their Dir655 router in delivering the high performance wireless network in homes or small offices. It is powered by Xtreme N technology with intelligent QoS technology to prioritize high intensive bandwidth applications such as Streaming HD video, gaming and voice applications. The router is very solid in delivering wireless connection and is powered by three external MIMO antennas for solid signal strength and longer distance coverage. With this high performance features, this router can create the wireless network environment to support the iPad and Touchpad. The question is: can iPad and Touchpad perform in their best in connecting wirelessly to the router in delivering the smooth streaming HD video and fast responsive gaming?
iPad and Touchpad are originally designed for audio and video platform for streaming High definition video and gaming experiences. But they are now designed to help you do more than you can do to support your businesses by incorporating applications including web browser, Mail, calendar, and etc.

To support the wireless connection to the internet both iPad and Touchpad are equipped with the Wi-Fi and or 3G. They support the wireless 802.11a/b/g/n standards, this means they support dual band network both 2.4GHz and 5GHz band. With 5GHz band support they can optimize streaming HD media and smooth gaming experiences because 5GHz band is relatively clean and less interference. It is therefore, both iPad and Touchpad should connect to the wireless router that support dual band to perform in their best connection to the network. So, does Dir655 support dual band technology? Unfortunately it doesn’t support dual band. Should you upgrade to new generations of D-Link dual band router such as Dir665 N450 or Dir825 N600 wireless router?
Let’s have a look at the following table that shows you the spec comparison for Dir655, Dir665 and Dir825 routers.

Wireless Technology
To provide high performance environment for iPad and Touchpad the router should support dual band technology both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. D-Link Dir655 doesn’t support dual band but both Dir665 and Dir825 support dual band technology but not completely the same. Dir665 supports selectable dual band N450 delivering the speeds up to 450Mbps each band but not concurrently. Basically selectable dual band is single band in a time. Dir825 supports simultaneous dual band technology with each band delivers speeds up to 300Mbps, double the router bandwidth up to 600Mbps (300Mbps + 300Mbps).
With Dir665, you can select the band to work in 5GHz frequency for clean and less interference network. But as consequence, your network can only connect the wireless clients that work in 5GHz band only. Any wireless devices that work in 2.4GHz band cannot connect to the network unless you select the router band to work in 2.4GHz band. This is not a good environment if you have mix wireless devices.
With Dir825, this router supports simultaneous dual band technology to let you connect all the mix wireless devices that work both in 2.4GHz and 5GHz band. Dir825 should be the ideal solution for providing high performance wireless environment for iPad and Touchpad.
What about the performance of Dir825? You can read how the customers provide their opinions about the products in Amazon (summary is shown in the table) or Buy. I am not discussing more detail about the spec differences but you can see the summary as shown in the table.
