One of the essential requirements for businesses today is the internet connection. Many businesses including small businesses and branch offices, constant internet connection is a must. Remote branch offices connect to the corporate network via the internet by means of secure tunneling VPN is common.
For many small offices or branch offices, building network infrastructure that support VPN and constant internet connection requires VPN server including the authentication system and also requires primary internet connection and the backup connection. The backup connection is to assure the failover when the primary connection fails. This is to reduce the downtime of internet connection as low as possible.

Cisco RV082 is a dual wan router with VPN capability. The router includes two WAN ports, one port is designed specifically for primary WAN connection and the second port can be configured as the second WAN port or as the DMZ port. You can configure the second WAN port as the Smart Link Backup or as the load balance internet connection. Or you can configure the second WAN port as the DMZ network to expose the client computer to the internet in a secure boundary, for example for video conference or online gaming (in home usage).
Failover and Load Balance
To meet your small offices, the Cisco RV082 dual wan router can be configured for failover or load balance Internet. With Smart Link Backup you configure the first WAN port as the primary internet connection, and the second port as the backup. The router includes the network service detection you can configure the system to failover to the second WAN connection when the primary connection fails. This is a good solution for small offices that require constant internet connection.
You can also configure the dual-wan connection in load balance. In load balance solution, the router will use Weighted Round Robin (WRR) in computing the ration of the bandwidths to balance the load between WAN1 and WAN2 connections.
VPN
Cisco RV082 dual wan router can support 100 IPSec secure tunneling for connecting branch offices and it also supports up to 50 QuickVPN users for remote client access. To protect the secure connection the router supports DES, 3DES, AES-128, AES-192, AES-256 encryption and MD5 / SHA1 authentication.
LAN
Cisco RV082 dual wan router includes built-in 8-port 10/100 Ethernet switch for local network connection for computers or other Ethernet based devices. The good thing with this router is that it supports the VLAN (virtual LAN) in each of the LAN Ethernet ports. So you can create up to eight VLANs for security / segment segregations.
To provide the IP address configurations automatically to all the client computers in the network, the router can serve as the DHCP server. You can also filter which internal hosts can access to the internet easily using the web browser-based configuration utility.
